Shocking moment a cop throws a Good Samaritan out of McDonald's because he bought a homeless man a meal to eat inside the restaurant

Thank you to one of my SWAP Nursing students for sending me this quite astonishing news story for blog discussion. This one is certain to produce a lot of comment, and quite rightly so.

A McDonald's customer posted a video to social media showing him and a homeless man being told to leave a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, restaurant after he says he bought him food.

  1. I’d be interested to hear what the ‘disordely Conduct’ of the homeless man has been in the past seeing apparently he has a history of it. I fear his disorderly conduct amounts to simply asking for some food or money every now and then and if so the only thing ‘criminal’ about that is that there are people in our so called civilised societies that are reduced to begging for survival.

I usually refrain from sweeping generalisations but I fear for the US, it can’t go on this way. All we see are examples of hatred and lack of tolerance. As a young girl I wanted the ‘American dream’, now I don’t even want to holiday there.

  2. I can see how this man eventually became so angered, what an appalling way to treat someone in need. Sometimes things like this happen and it kind of destroys your faith in humanity, then you look at all the lovely people in 4x4s on social media who are helping members of the nhs get to work and it can be restored. Horrible way to treat people in my opinion but karma sure does come around and maybe this fellow will find himself looking for kindness and not be able to get it. Or heaven forbid find himself at the bottom of the food chain at some point in his life an experience similar.

  3. I’m struggling to get my head around this one. What on earth were McDonald’s staff thinking of? There are sure to be repercussions here and I’m sure this isn’t the last time we’ll be reading about this story. It saddens me, on many levels. Thank you both for your considered comments as always.
