Further to the subject we have been looking at lately, check the story above! And look at the costs of the whisky, had it been legitimate...

  1. Funnily enough Laura just mentioned this on the group chat !! I’m sure she will have a lot to say in the subject ! I only have one thing ! What a moron ! If you’re going to spend 7k on something at least know the item enough to be able to tell it apart from a fake !! fake designer handbags and fake Uggs , I can spot them a mile away . The guy has more money than sense !

    1. In addition the man is very lucky to have gotten his money back !! That is a rare occurrence ! Also noticed the Utah nurse got 500k!! Great outcomes in both cases !

  4. I understand how he got it wrong. It’s still whiskey & was sold by a reputable enough place. I suppose if he bought it down the barras it would’ve been a different story.
He’s clearly got more money than he needs, maybe he should do something constructive with the refund - on that I think the hotel done the decent thing giving him the money back in the end once they knew it wasn’t the real deal.

  5. It really is a crazy story for lots of reasons. The cost, the cost of a legitimate bottle, the fact somebody in the know spotted the cork was wrong leading to the test and so on. I'm sure Lidl do an award winning bottle for a tenner! I'm more wine and vodka myself, but I enjoyed reading the article all the same.

  6. Hotel absolutely did the decent thing in refunding the money, although they've drummed up some fab publicity in the process...am I a cynic?
Quite agree with Ashleigh and Rachel. Of course it's terrible that there's been a fraud committed (i'd be interested to know how much the owner paid in the first place, the hotel managers father I believe, very likely he has also been ripped off).

For me the worst part of this story is that there are people in the world who can afford to buy extravagances that they care little for just for the sake of it. I find it difficult to believe that a genuine whisky lover could confuse a blend (which this transpired to be) for a top of the range, in fact THEE top range, single malt. I live with a scotch collector and despite his most expensive bottle being a mere £200 *cough* (I wish it was wine!) I can't imagine he'd be fooled by this or did no one want to be the one who said 'this tastes like crap'?!

Fraud is wrong and a crime as I so animatedly declared on the plagiarism chat however I have less sympathy for the multi millionaire who's ridiculously extravagant whisky was a dud. Give the money to charity!
