We have discussed the import of educating young people about health issues, but I wonder what you thought about this article on money management?
I quite like the phrase 'financial literacy'.
Comments welcome as always.
Cheers,
Mark

Not a word I have ever come across, but it piqued my interest. As did the following article. What say you? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42...

Hi all, This is the Jamie Oliver TED talk that we looked at in class today. I think this provides lots of talking points in terms of c...
I used to live in Kirkby ! Funnily enough! I agree with the premise of this article and as such my kids both have junior savers and jisa’s which they are unable to touch until they are older. I dont want them to have to struggle and like to instill the value of money young so when they grow they know how to manage it ! Something that was never instilled in me which is probably why I managed to accrue debt since I was old enough to get a credit card ! Very important issue in my opinion and explained well here , many people from this area would see their parents get high interest or payday loans too, very relevant and very true ! :) ash
ReplyDeleteYes!!! This should Defo be brought into schools, I wish it was when I was there! Like Ashley I got a credit card as soon as I turned of age! I’m still learning from my mistakes!! I would even suggest to introduce this into mathematics!! Let the kids calculate how much interest they will pay for a payday loan!! Guarantee that will be imprinted on their minds!!!
ReplyDeleteAshley- you have lived everywhere lol x
Great stuff. I think it is a good idea, or even the notion of discussing the issue can be of help. It seems that for a while it was getting harder to get a credit card when the credit crunch / crisis was on, but now society has reverted back to giving them out with alarming ease.
ReplyDeleteVery alarming!!! I am one of the mugs who reply on them!! Hope my son learns at school because I’m a very bad example 🙀
ReplyDeleteBut we all learn from our previous choices, that's the positive angle!
ReplyDeleteI learnt to budget at an early age but I know a lot of people who got into debt and still are .I did have credit cards and loans and still use credit but I am careful how much I spend.I think it's a great idea to teach the value of money in the schools hopefully it will prepare pupils for later life.At least one good idea out there.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a lifelong skill worth noting for sure. I use various documents when I teach the HNC Accounts class Business Communication and these highlight very clearly the lack of knowledge 'young people' have regarding this subject.
